Dr. Ortiz has been a public health student trainer with an emphasis on protection of vulnerable populations such as indigenous people. His house is a reception point for students from all over the world and nationals, where they come to carry out internships with a focus on indigenous population. It is a house in the middle of the forest, without walls in most of it and where up to 20 people can stay simultaneously. In addition to students, the place receives a large number of representatives from public universities and United Nations agencies as well as organizations that develop projects in the Coto Brus area and who visit the place to be able to discuss initiatives focused on improving the living conditions of indigenous people, especially the Ngäbe and Bugle.
